From Retro To Contemporary: A Complete Bathroom Installation In Rushden
Client Background
One of our clients who is a homeowner in Rushden, recently contacted us to renovate his cramped white-themed, outdated bathroom. He was not satisfied with his current bathroom plan as it lacked personality, and he felt uncomfortable. The client was looking for something aesthetically pleasing and more functional. So he asked us to assist him in turning his tiny and old-styled bathroom into a modern and spacious one that reflects his personality.
Client's Requirements
We arranged a meeting with our client regarding his requirements. He told us he is looking for a complete bathroom renovation. His primary concerns were:
- Lack of storage space.
- Compact design
- White tiles appear unappealing.
- Water spilling during shower
- Obsolete fittings in the shower area
- Outdated looking small towel radiator stand was not enough to hold more than two towels
The client also asked us to add some unique features that bring character and an aesthetically pleasing look to his bathroom, making his bathroom contemporary.
Project Challenges
Since the bathroom has a cramped layout, it took a lot of work to meet the client’s needs.
- At first, we require careful planning while replacing the current tiles, fixtures, and fittings with new ones. We need to ensure that our new designs will fit comfortably within the space.
- Moreover, the existing vanity and toilet style had to be changed without repositioning to accommodate the new bathroom layout.
- Lastly, the client has a tight budget and timeframe, and we have to manage all these things within the given time and allocation.
Our main objective was to create a contemporary, more functional, and cozy bathroom that would exceed our client’s expectations.
Our Design Plan
After the client’s bathroom survey, keeping his needs in mind, we prepared the following design plan to address all his concerns while maintaining the budget.
Space Escalation
Since the client was looking for more space, we proposed replacing the bathtub with a walk-in shower, which he denied. He wasn’t ready to give up on his bathtub, so we had to seek alternate ways to create more space, improve accessibility, and make the bathroom feel more open.
Previously, the outer surface of the bathtub was brown is color, which was quite dull so we decided to paint it with the same color as the bathtub to make it look more spacious, bright, and interesting.
Bathtub Glass Panel Installation
As mentioned earlier, our client’s concern for water being spilled out while taking shower. He was seeking some stylish curtains but keeping the budget and the size of the bathroom in mind, we proposed to install a bathtub glass panel on half of the side.
We didn’t opt for curtains because for the following reasons:
- The curtains will make the bathroom layout more compact and unappealing.
- Curtains seems budget friendly but they aren’t in a long run because it needs constant replacement and maintenance.
- It gets dirty and wear off easily.
Storage Solutions
According to our plan, we needed to install a few new cabinets, and a bigger towel radiator stand to provide ample storage for towels, toiletries, and other bathroom essentials. This would keep the bathroom tidy and organized.
Inventive Upgrades
We suggested green tiles on the wall that would greatly complement our client’s personality and add a touch of luxury to the bathroom. The color theme we decided on was perfect to create a calming and relaxing atmosphere while making the bathroom more open and bright. Also, we needed to install electric shaver switches, new windows, a few of the spot lights.
- Electric shaver switch was required by the client so he does not have to use a long wired extension anymore
- New and big window will help in improved ventilation and its new colour looks more matching with the new bathroom theme
- Addition of spotlight will make the bathroom brighter and shinier.
Replacement of Old Vanity
The installed basin was old-styled with zero storage, so we have chosen a new basin, tagged with a storage cabinet below. This style perfectly complements the rest of the layout with increased storage.
Toilet and Tiles Replacement
The previous toilet was an outdated traditional version, so we suggested installing something unique and modern. Also, the white floor tiles looked gross because the grout lines of the floor tiles was too dirty to clean. We decided to replace it with modern waterproof vinyl laminate flooring.
Our proposal was accepted, and we executed our project as per our proposed design.
Installation of Unique Features
We were keen on the fittings in the shower area. So, to create a unique and contemporary look, we recommended installing a modern, luxury rain shower and a sleek handheld shower. This will add a style and incorporate a uniqueness to the bathroom texture.
Project Execution
The project execution is as follows:
Demolition
Our design was already approved, so we jumped into the second stage, i.e., demolishing the existing bathroom. It includes the removal of old fittings and fixtures. The walls and floors were stripped back to the bare structure. The plumber then repositioned the plumbing to accommodate the new bathroom layout.
Installation
Once the bathroom was back to the basic structure, we installed all new plumbing and new drainage, new extractor fan, fixtures and fittings as per our plan. The floor was furnished with laminate flooring, walls were looking good and bright after the installation of new greenish tiles, followed by the installation of bathtub glass panel, new stylish basin, storage box, and fancy toilet.
Finishing touches
Once we were done with all the changes, it was time for the final finishing, where we scrubbed the stains and painted the areas that needed an additional coat.
Project outcome
Our Client’s bathroom installation project was a great success. He expressed his satisfaction with our exceptional work. The new bathroom exceeded the client’s expectations and provided him with a functional, contemporary, and comfortable space. The bathtub glass panel and the stylish rain shower were a particular highlight, providing a spacious and luxurious showering experience.
